Let us walk through around the world -Part17-The Waterfall House, by Frank Lloyd Wright
GNI
In Millran, Pennsylvania, Frank Lloyd Wright designed an extraordinary house around the Bear Run Nature Reserve, a stream that runs at an altitude of 395 meters below sea level, down the waterfall at a height of 10 meters. It is renowned for the name of the cascade and reveals the connection between man, nature and architecture. The house was designed as a weekend residence for its owners, Edgar Kaufman, and his wife and son, whom Wright met with the family through their son who studied at his school in Tlitsin.
This cascade was a fun place for the family before the design of the house for 15 years and so when they signed with Wright for the design of the building, they asked him to have access to the waterfall as well to see the waterfall. They do. Instead, Wright combined the design of the house with the waterfall itself, and built the house just above the waterfall to make the cascade as part of Kauffman's life.
Wright planted the house around the fireplace, the heart of the house that was being used to bring together family members together. In this plan, a rock has created a gap in the fireplace and physically flushes the cascade into the house. In addition, Wright drew attention to this concept by lifting the unusual chimney of the house as its highest point outdoing.
The waterfall house consists of two parts: the main house of the Kaufmann family, built between 1936 and 1938, and the guest house completed in 1939. The main house consisted of plain spaces decorated by Wright, with a spacious living space and a small kitchen on the first floor and three small bedrooms located on the second floor. Edgar Jr.'s third floor study room and bedroom was the son of Kauffman's family. All spaces were connected with the nature around them, and the living space had even stairs that went straight to the waterfall.
The inner circulation of the house consists of narrow, dark corridors, with the intention that people will feel a little tense when crossing them in comparison to the vast space they are facing a little ahead of. The ceiling of the spaces is short and in some spaces it is only about 2 meters, because it can direct the eyes horizontally and outwardly. The beauty of these spaces is in their expansion in nature, which is possible with high and console terraces. The curved corners of the terraces have made the terraces look like a statue, alongside their performance.
It uses a clear form with building materials that communicated with the site around it, and decided to use a reinforced concrete structure for the terraces. This was the first time Wright worked with concrete for residential buildings.
The integrity of these details has made this home perfect and perfect, and although the structural problems of this house have caused it to be constantly in need of maintenance, there is no doubt that this building, which today is one of the historical points Registered as a national, it has been a genius. From its bold consoles to the details of the windows that are in the cornea and the permanent sound of the flow of water, the waterfall house has been able to display the material and spiritual encounters of man and architecture in harmony with nature. All you need to do is listen to the sound that resonates in this house.

Great photos! I've been wanting to go visit this place for a while now, but I'm on the opposite side of PA and so it's been tough to find time. Thanks for giving an inside look!
