RE: Georgia State Railroad Museum
The trains I remember riding on as a small child were electric with an overhead line. We had a freight train track very near our house but a steam train going past was a rarity by the late 1950s and all the engines were diesel-powered.
I can see where they would be scary for a small child! Thanks for the Tokens!
With pleasure! In Romania steam locomotives worked in the 1960s, when I was 6-7 years old.
A few years ago they renovated one of the old railroad Depots in a nearby town. To celebrate they brought a steam engine out of storage and ran it across the state to be at the Depot celebration. It was in the dead of winter and it was amazing to see that train on the tracks! It doesn't happen very often these days!
Yes, such a locomotive is very spectacular.
