Abbotsford Convent - Melbourne, Australia
Good day Steemians I trust you have all been well.
Today's blog post is about the wonderful historic Abbotsford Convent located in the Melbourne suburb of Collingwood which is adjacent to the Collingwood Childrens Farm.
The Convent was home to many nuns who cared for children many years ago and many of the old buildings are still standing and in use. One of which is the old bake house which still operates with a woodfire ovan and is now a cafe.
As always, we attended for breakfast and it's not breakfast unless it's bacon and eggs.
Once you're full you can walk the grounds and many of its old buildings which are now repurposed for community use.
One of my favourite is the childrens farm which aims to expose inner city kids to farm living and is open to schools for school excursions where kids can learn about sustainable living.
Melbourne's famous Yarra River runs along the site and makes for a great exercise track after a big meal.
Many of the waterfalls and fish ponds have been restores and native wild life has returned to the area.
If you're visiting Melbourne the Abbotsford Convent is a place you need to see to truely see Melbourne's past.
Good luck master
