Locomotivation

in #photography5 years ago (edited)

When there the rest of my family had gone out of the house to shop for spring clothes, I felt motivated to go and shoot one steam engine abandoned on a side track. I have photographed it couple of times before.

This steam engine is of the VR Class Tr1 type. They were manufactured between 1940 and 1957. This one is one of about 20 still in existence.

There were ladders and rails in the front. So I climbed on top of it.

Those thingies remind me of the tops of minarets! Call to prayer imminent!

The steam engine and the old depot are worth coming back to. The best time to shoot is autumn, in my opinion. Check out my shoot last September, for example. The mist helped create a very interesting atmosphere. I'll be back later when I'm less busy.

Great shots of past times and technology.👍

Perhaps I should do a repost of the best images I have of that locomotive. Some of the pictures were taken with a phone camera in September and earlier. Those pictures cannot be retaken because the windows of the engine have been boarded up.

A good idea. These pictures have very good details and sharpness. Even if the technical quality not is as good as from the DSLR, they can be good enough from the phone👍

Very nice photos! Still lots of snow!

Thank you. Yes, statistically the thickness of the snow will be at the annual maximum at the end of March. But it is highly variable to say the least. It will continue to melt rapidly for the next ten days.

Funny thing this Partiko app. It hasn’t got its time labeling working out yet! So it’s very difficult to know how old the post is without switching to other app. This takes too much time so I just depend on luck about timing! As you said, it’s a waste to
Upvote too soon!

Snow is melting quickly!! Oh! Flooding is possible!

Flooding is quite likely in some parts of the country. In the flat region of Ostrobothnia, the local rivers flow and meander slowly through the landscape and floods are an annual thing. The worst thing that can happen is the formation of an ice dam in a river. The floods rarely inundate whole buildings or cause people to drown but the water level does occasionally rise enough to flood basements and cause water to enter the first floors of buildings. The damage caused is significant in those cases.

Luckily, in this part of the country, floods like that never happen. The terrain is more uneven and, rivers flow faster and there are no major rivers.

Well! So no photos of string running water!
