Mushrooms occurring in Europe - Pholiota squarrosa
Pholiota squarrosa - Hat diameter 20-150 mm; initially closed, ovoid, later hemispherical, with age arched, flat. Dry surface; straw-yellow, yellow-brown, ocher, brown; covered with darker, rusty, protruding scales. The shore has long been rolled up, sharp.
Plaques, notched or decurrent; firstly pale yellowish, then rust-brown.
Stem 40-120 mm high, 10-15 mm thick; cylindrical, fibrous, hard, in the middle, wadded, with age, woody; hat color; below the ring zone covered with dense, protruding, yellow-brown scales, naked above it.
Ring fibrous, straw-yellow, with age rusty brown from spores.
Unchanging pulp; yellowish color, brownish stems in the bottom. A mushroom and spicy scent, sometimes slightly radish; taste mild in youth, then bitter-bitter.
Occurrence: In deciduous and mixed forests, in orchards; at the base of living and dead deciduous trees, often fruity, very rarely coniferous trees. It grows in bundles, tufts; from August to November. Very frequent.
Value: Inedible fungus, but it is divided on this subject.
