Westhamption Yacht Squadron on Moriches Bay.
The Yacht Squadron originated from the Westhampton Country Club founded in 1890 to socialize, engage in tennis / croquet and sailboat racing.
The yacht club part was sold in 1939, when the Club almost became bankrupted due to the Great Depression and hurricane of 1938. It was sold for $ 1,000 with a new club house built for under $ 4,000. In 1955 additional adjacent property was bought for $ 2,500. You can just imagine what it is worth today.

By the way Westhampton Yacht Squadron is Not in Westhampton. It is in the adjacent town of Remsenburg. Little known Remsenburg is one of my favorite places.
