Traveling with me #2: Visit Athens, the City of the Gods. De visita en Atenas, la Ciudad de los Dioses

Athens is the capital of Greece and the most populous city in the country. Its history goes back more than three thousand years, being one of the oldest cities of the world. Piraeus, its port, was one of the most important in the world and Athens was responsible for the development of navigation that we know today. As far as culture, which is what is most known, brought great thinkers and writers to humanity emphasizing philosophy. It is a city rich in archaeological remains highlighting the Parthenon.

Atenas es la capital de Grecia y la ciudad más poblada del país. Su historia se remonta a hace más de tres mil años, siendo una de las ciudades más antiguas del mundo. El Pireo, su puerto, fue uno de los más importantes del mundo y Atenas fue responsable del desarrollo de la navegación que hoy conocemos. En cuanto a la cultura, que es por lo que más se la conoce, aportaron grandes pensadores y escritores a la humanidad destacando en filosofía. Es una ciudad rica en restos arqueológicos destacando el Partenón.

For sports lovers like me, I also have to comment that it was the first city in history to hold a few Olympic games in the year 1896. As for other sports, say that they are power in European Basketball with their two teams, The Panathinaikos and the Olympiacos.

Para los amantes del deporte como yo, también tengo que comentar que fue la primera ciudad de la historia en celebrar unos juegos olímpicos, en el año 1896. En cuanto a otros deportes, decir que son potencia en el Baloncesto Europeo con sus dos equipos, el Panathinaikos y el Olympiacos.

Then, I will start the tour of Athens, I was only a few hours since it was of scale but I took the opportunity to visit the city a little. It's a place I loved, but I say I will not be back in summer, the heat was too strong, and that's what I'm used to.

Dicho esto, voy a empezar la visita turística por Atenas, solo estuve unas horas ya que estaba de escala pero aproveché para visitar un poco la ciudad. Es un sitio que me encantó, pero ya digo que no volveré en verano, el calor era demasiado fuerte, y eso que yo estoy acostumbrado a él.

The Acropolis - La Acrópolis

It is the most famous place of Athens and Greece and the symbol that represents the city. If someone names Athens, it quickly comes to mind the Parthenon, which is the main structure of the Acropolis. It was the capital of culture in the world and where the great thinkers of the time studied and spent their time. In addition to highlighting the Parthenon as a temple and main building I must highlight:

Es el lugar más famoso de Atenas y de Grecia y el símbolo que representa a la ciudad. Si alguien nombra Atenas, rápidamente le viene a la mente el Partenón, que es la estructura principal de la Acrópolis. Fue la capital de la cultura en el mundo y donde los grandes pensadores de la época estudiaban y pasaban su tiempo. Además de destacar el Partenón como templo y principal construcción tengo que resaltar:

• Erechtheion known as The Caryatids, its columns are copies, since the original columns are in the museum of the Acropolis, five of them, and one in the British museum in London.

• Erecteión conocida como Las Cariátides, sus columnas son copias, ya que las columnas originales están en el museo de la Acrópolis, cinco de ellas, y una en el museo británico de Londres.

• Propylaea, the great entrance to the Acropolis, built with marble beams.

• Propileos, la gran entrada al Acrópolis, construída con vigas de mármol.

• Odeon of Herodes Attic, which was the building for concerts and musical auditions.

• Odeón de Herodes Ático, que era el edificio para los conciertos y las audiciones musicales.

Temple of Olympian Zeus - Templo de Zeus Olímpico

This famous temple built in marble and 104 columns is located 500 meters south of the Acropolis. The Emperor Hadrian was the one who finished this wonderful work and built a giant statue of gold and ivory in its interior of which to this day there are no remains.

Este famoso templo construído en mármol y por 104 columnas está situado a 500 metros al sur del Acrópolis. El emperador Adriano fue el que finalizó esta maravillosa obra y construyó una estatua gigante de oro y márfil en su interior de la que a día de hoy no existen restos.

Of its 104 columns, only 16 are in the temple, 15 being those that are standing and a demolished and still being present where it fell.

De sus 104 columnas, solo 16 hay en el templo, siendo 15 las que están en pie y una derruida y estando presente aún donde cayó.

Panathinaikó Stadium - Estadio Panathinaikó

It is the stadium in which the first Olympic games of history were held in 1896. It was rebuilt from the remains of the old stadium. It is the only stadium in the world built entirely of marble. At the 2004 Olympic Games, the final men's and women's marathon events had their arrival in this mythical place.

Es el estadio en el que se celebraron los primeros juegos olímpicos de la historia en 1896. Fue reconstruido a partir de los restos del antiguo estadio. Es el único estadio del mundo construido de marmol de forma completa. En los juegos olímpicos de 2004, la final de las pruebas de maratón masculina y femenina tuvieron su llegada en este mítico lugar.

It is a site that any sport lover should visit once in his life.

Es un sitio que cualquier amante del deporte debería visitar una vez en su vida.

Another mythical place to walk in Athens is the neighborhood of Plaka, a colorful and lively neighborhood to mingle with the people of Athens and live for a while as an Athenian.

Otro lugar mítico por el que pasear en Atenas es el barrio de Plaka, un barrio colorido y alegre para mezclarnos con la gente de Atenas y vivir un rato como un ateniense.
