📷 Bali "Day of Silence" ~ Hari Raya Nyepi (Tahun Baru Saka)

So, today I am in Bali. Locked in a house. The streets are empty and the airport closed. All the stores and markets are closed. The waves are pumping but none surfs them.

It's year 1939 first day of the year...

No I haven't time traveled.. I am just in Bali.. It is their calendar and it is their new years eve.

So the purpose of silent day is for the evil spirits to find nobody in the place and then go away..

Yesterday was the last day of the Balinese year and it was noisy with people making offerings..

Preparing and praying for no rain (I can ensure you that until afternoon was super heavy raining and then the sky was super clear) so the parade and performances to take place..

It wasn't really easy to have some good captures..

So I am enjoying the silence and also no pollution day by breathing some fresh air and drinking this baby coconut..

. . . and I am wondering.. How cool is Balinese culture.. How cool would it be if silent day was a worldwide habit.. First day of the year in peace and harmony.. not noisy and wasted, spending money on drinks and fancy restaurants but been quiet and enjoy the silence, enjoy our beloved people, ourselves and our homes, without lights and digital entertainment.. just us and leaving nature in peace for that day besides religions or politics..
..I guess it would be cool :)
