Benrath: The pink castle
What to do in Düsseldorf when you have already checked the city center?
Maybe take a long walk or the U71 tram to Schloss Benrath - walking from the city center area you can pass by Südpark & the Botanic gardens. That'll be a long walk though...
The construction work began in 1755 and was completed in 1770. The ensemble at Benrath has been proposed for designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
There are two wing houses, holding two museums since 2002:
- the Museum for European Garden Art in the east wing
- the Museum of Natural History in the west wing.
During my walk around the garden and the castle a saw at least seven couples getting their wedding pictures taken - and all cars passing by were honking their horns when they saw the brides. A great way of greeting beauty :)
