Russian folk art products from birch bark

When I was on vacation in the city of Rostov-on-Don, I visited the exhibition "Products of Russian folk art from birch bark"
It took place in the park and the entrance was free.

I took some photos, although there were a lot of presented products.
I was struck by the fact that in spite of such a large number, I did not see identical products!

Historical and archaeological information confirms that for a long time birch bark has been used as writing material.
During the excavations in Novgorod, under the direction of A.V.Artsikhovsky, more than four hundred birch bark documents relating to the XII – XIV centuries were found.

Birch bark weaving is one of the most ancient, and today it is one of the rarest crafts.
Birch bark weaving is considered native Russian art.

In peasant life there were a lot of birch bark products. The most ancient type of peasant footwear - sandals - were made from birch bark.

Birch bark is light, cheap, and most importantly does not have a smell that could be transmitted to food products and affect their quality. Birch bark or birch bark attracts with its warmth and velvety. It is plastic, bactericidal and waterproof.
A large number of birch bark items was occupied by various household utensils for the kitchen, for the dining table, for the cellar and storerooms, where the products prepared for future use were stored.
But, to my great regret, I did not see the products for storing products.

I am very pleased that in our days the interest in the ancient folk art of our ancestors has not died away.

Thank you very much!
It has been raining for several days now!

Beautiful! You can find birchbark crafts made by our First Nations People too but completely different than these. I didn't know anyone else used it and I have never seen woven birch bark. They also decorated boxes with porcupine quills. Have you ever seen those?

Thank you very much!
No I did not see!
Do you have a photo? You post a post.
It would be interesting to see.

Sorry, I don't have any photos. Most famous of all are the canoes they made from birch bark.
