A Walk Through the Farm, Update 1: Quails and Chickens

in #photography7 years ago

I took a walk through the farm today specifically to take some photos to show you all everything that's going on.  We have many kinds of chickens at this point many of which are seriously pretty unique.

The quails are going strong in their new enclosure.

We haven't shared this one but it's a full sized chicken we got recently for about a hundred pesos.

The black and white one is one we've had for awhile.

So there you have it, a bit of a chicken and quail update.  The numbers are growing and things are going strong.  We have our losses but that's part of life as we figure out how the best way to keep these birds alive and healthy happens to be.

Thanks for following and supporting us, until next time.

Nice photos, following you

You have some beautiful chickens and quail. A few years ago, we had chickens, guineas, a few goats and a couple calves for our kids to bottle feed. We wanted the farm experience and that we got. We worked hard and enjoyed our experiences. Hope you continue to do well with your chickens and quail.

How'd you like the guineas? I was considering getting some, they're so pretty.

I liked the guineas but they have their own issues. They are poor mothers if you plan on raising them . Usually a mother chicken hen will hatch the guineas eggs and raise the babies as their own. Train them when they are young, if they aren't put up at night they will roost near your house. They make excellent watch dogs if something unusual comes around. They can be fun but they are a bird all their own. Good luck if you decide on getting them. Thanks for your reply.

Wow, @lily-da-vine, there are SO MANY now! Love the variety, too. You and John are really doing inspiring things up there. :-) Life! Creativity! Everywhere!

Indeed. These chickens will live a long happy life here on this mountain. :D

I'm really digging your stories. Sometime, if you feel it appropriate, I'd like to see how your plot of land is laid out and get your insights on how you've decided to plant what and where. Do you plan to rotate your animal cages and plant at the existing locations?

I am sure there is more to this than meets the eye. My daughter wants to start raising 6 chickens. Not that 4 kids and three dogs aren't enough. lol Where can she find more information on how to go about starting her own little farm? thanks a bunch.

Just googling basic chicken care will help a ton. I'll be honest when I say I haven't done much research with them, other than the basics. Most of what I've learned has been from watching them! There are great videos on youtube that explain it too.

thanks so much....I'll let her know.
