Amazing catfish
How do you like this catfish?
Several small catfish of amazing color, in peas, live in my aquarium. The scientific name Gipancistrus or license plate catfish L-201, or Unset Orinoco, Angel Plecoot, belongs to the chain-mail catfish family.
Catfish lives in the wild in the Ventuari and Orinoco Rivers in South America. I have never been there. Sources say that the fish love streams and streams with a fast flow, but still prefers to be among the shelters of a rocky bottom, where there are fallen trees, driftwood and branches.
Therefore, to give natural conditions, the husband added various shelters, different stones, ceramic pipes, driftwood to the aquarium. Catfish are very fond of them.
The catfish's body is covered with small thorns, this is visible in the photo. Very rough to the touch. 😏. The size of the catfish itself is 5-7 cm, maximum 10-14 cm. Ours have not yet grown to 10
Look at these eyes staring up. Somik knows how to rotate them, and look back. See, watching me😊
This is a very calm fish that does not require special care and costs. Catfish are predominantly nocturnal. But I was lucky, on a cloudy day they "went out" for a walk, and I was able to arrange a photo shoot
All the "houses" are occupied, each catfish has its own shelter, although sometimes there are territorial "claims" to each other. In general, they have a peaceful coexistence with each other and other fish. I don’t know what catfish eat in the natural environment, but in the aquarium they eat what other fish didn’t eat, that is, any sinking feeds, and they really like aquarium plants and what is on them. There is no special trouble with Gipancistrus L-201!
Enjoy!
