Congress Avenue Bats At Sunset
By Leon Fu
Every evening during the summer, a crowd gathers around the Congress Avenue bridge in downtown Austin to observe millions of bats emerge from under that bridge and fly into the night to feed. This photo shows people on the bridge as well as in boats observing the gigantic swarm of bats emerging from under the bridge. Zoom in on the high resolution image, and you'll see those dark specs under the bridge are actually bats!
FYI the bats only do this in the summer when it's hot and in the evening. So it's a reason to brave the Austin heat and visit in the summer. But it's hot. really hot.
