EIS and OIS - Image Stabilization

Have you ever wondered why moving a camera captures blurred images or videos like while are taking a candid shot and someone kicks you or while you are moving on bus and trying a capture a sexy lady on your phone? Here is the reason, while you take a picture ,Lens captures the light passing through the shutter at a instant.While your camera is on motion capturing an image or video,lens capture the light of different frames and collectively giving blurred image or video.

So,There need to be a solution for such problem.To solve this we have EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization ) and OIS (Optical Image Stabilization).

OIS (Optical Image Stabilization)

In this technique the image is stabilized by varying the optical path of the sensor.To compensate the movement of the camera,the lens assembly is moved parrel to the image plane so there is no alternation and degradtion of images.Gyro-sensors are used to transmit the signal to microcontroller which in turn creates a drive signal to move the lens assembly to correct the image projection.But,OIS is quite expensive and are only used in high end phones.

EIS(Electronic Image Stabilization )

In EIS technique,the image is stabilized at programming level after the optical signal has been converted to a digital signal.In EIS the processor breaks down the image in to small chunks and then compares it to the preceding frames. It determines whether the motion was a moving object or an unwanted shake and makes the required correction.This technique is quite cheap and are used in mid range phones.
