An Amsterdam Canal in the Rain, with and without flash

The

effect of flashes at nighttime can cause unexpected effects when there is some kind of precipitation. Snow and rain also, but of course they look quite different. This one is caused by rain.

Note that both photos were taken about 6 degrees off horizontal so I rotated them. This makes the picture look a lot better also.

With a tripod and two snaps in quick succession you could combine the two images for a dream-like effect in various ways. I was trying to do that with these to photos but the un-flashed image is pointed slightly in a different direction and has a little shake-blur.

Reflector panels light up strongly even at quite a distance from a flash, also, which could let you play with some effects as well, but it accentuates the misalignment in this case.

Night-time long exposure photography can make some cool effects. Sometime I am going to play with this, we just need to get a tripod and remote trigger.

😎

We can't stop here! This is Whale country!

Upper picture is better, as my mind )

Of course, but... well, imagine the lower one stereoscopic, and with a brighter flash, blurry drops of water floating in space in front of your eyes... I would so love a stereoscopic camera and some way to look at the pictures.
