Nyan Estuary Explored

i took this image from the Nyan River estuary mangrove forest in the Western Region of Ghana, located 5 km east of Fort St. Antonio on Manfro Hill in the Ahanta West District of the Western Region of south Ghana on 4o47’52.21” N; 2o08’28.36” W . It lies between Axim to the west and Sekondi-Takoradi to the east. On the banks are mangrove forest which stretches inland with the mouth of the estuary occupied by a mixture of mangrove trees, coconut trees and other plants species.

This rocky shore lies east of the mouth of the Nyan estuary. The area is characterized by two different species of mangrove namely Laguncularia racemosa and Rhizophora mangle out of the seven species Rhizophora mangle, Rhizophora harrisonii, Rhizophora racemosa, Avicennia germinans, Laguncularia racemosa, Conocarpus erectus, and Acrostichum aureum found in Ghana. Predominantly, the inhabitants in these community are fisherfolks and farmers whiles some are engaged in petty trading. However, there is existing regulation and traditional laws on the cutting of mangrove trees in the estuarine mangrove system bordering river Nyan.
