Hello dear steaimians. as I told you before Algeria has so many beautiful places and things you would see. Today I am gonna present The Maqam Echahid (Martyrs' Memorial in English), it is a monument to the Algerian War for Independence. Built on the site of an ancient fort, the striking monument is a tribute to the soldiers that lost their life in the Algerian War of Independence which raged from 1954 – 1962. The monument was opened in 1982 on the 20th anniversary of Algeria's independence.

The Martyr’s Memorial is a representation of three palm leaves standing together. Standing at a height of 92 meters, the iconic memorial is made up of 3 stylized fins (or palm fronds) which ‘sticks’ together mid-height to protect the ‘Eternal Flame.’

Each frond represents an aspect of the economic revolution of the country (agricultural, cultural and industrial), with a statue of a soldier mounted at the edge of each frond. The monument sits on an esplanade, and also includes an amphitheater, a crypt, and an underground Museum of the Mujahid. It is a beautiful spectacle at night especially since 2014, after the monument’s had its lights replaced with LED Energy Saving lights.

Visitors are able to walk around and underneath this colossal monument, which name means "the place where the martyr rests". It is also referred to as the "symbol of the unknown soldier", and is dedicated to the fallen heroes of the war for independence. The Bois des Arcades, located near to the Makam Echahid, offers shaded areas for relaxation and also has magnificent views of the monument. It is an attraction that is of great significant historical value to Algeria, and is a recommended site in the city of Algiers.

In the goal to create a monument that, memorize the Algerian heroes dead in the independency war called also El Mujahidin in the Arab language, the Algerian painter Bashir Yelles and a group of Lavalin company engineers was working together on the project, it was a challenge for the constructers because of the geometry of the assembly, and the curvature of the fins, especially the position of the site which is in the edge of steep cliff and the high seismicity of the region, for that raisons, they need a planning and construction methods expert, and a structural design engineer, so after a nine long exhausting months (November 15,1981 to July 5,1982), this architectural work was done, after that they start working on the building, in the ending of the work the then president Chadli Bendjedid inaugurate the monument.

So what are u waiting for, Algerian people are so nice, they will Show you all respect, and they will give you the help you need with an open heart.
