House Sparrow

in #photography6 years ago

Hello Steemians

This male house sparrow introduced to North America in New York City
in 1851. It is now found across all of North and Central America except
Alaska and far northern Canada.
The male, easily identified by the grey cap, reddish neck and white
cheek.
The larger and darker the black on the front of it's throat, indicates
the older and more dominate the male is.

I love house sparrows, especially the males: because they make eye-contact and chirp at me.

I feed them, so it's a fair trade:)

They are very plentiful in my area.
Easy to get a decent pic.
Thanks for resteeming!

House Sparrows were part of the flawed plan to introduce all of the birds mentioned in Shakespeare to the U.S. House Sparrow, European Starling, and Rock Pigeon have gone on to become ubiquitous in the northern western hemisphere, and have displaced many native species, so really a sad outcome from an environmental perspective.

Yes, it usually ends badly whenever a non native species is introduced.
