Soon it will be warm enough to hatch
Rediscovering this old image triggered the recall of a dream I had last night, I had discovered a tree where many large Polyphemus caterpillars were eating their last leaves and spinning their cocoons. I was collecting all the cocoons, knowing I'd have dozens ready to hatch come May.
I don't currently have any cocoons in this reality, this moth is from a previous Spring hatch. Maybe I'll find a tree like in that dream... but there would be only cocoons, no larvae this time of year.
Newly eclosed Polyphemus Moth
A very beautiful species of the Saturniidae. Unfortunately it does not exist in Europe.
