Peruvian Mummies at the Church do Carmo in Lisbon.

The "Church do Carmo", located in Lisbon, Portugal is one of the most emblematic sites of the city for being the largest Gothic church in the world, until it was destroyed by an earthquake in 1755. After the earthquake was never rebuilt, leaving it as a testimony of what happened. In addition, one of the ways to reach it is through the famous "Elevador de Santa Justa", another one of the most visited places of the city.

In this place is currently the "Archaeological Museum do Carmo " in the part of the church that was left standing.

The exhibition is magnificent and goes from prehistory to the 1800s, but of all, what impressed me most were the Peruvian mummies sitting.

I had heard about them and read about them too but never thought to find one in this museum. It was a surprise. The Chapapoyas Indians in the Peruvian Amazon had this tradition.

If you want to know more about the culture Chapapoya here I leave a link.
