[ENG-SPN] Toledo: capital of the Three Cultures / Toledo: capital de las Tres Culturas

A walk through Toledo is always an invitation to travel to the past, without the inconvenience of trying to put Albert Einstein's Theory of Relativity into practice or burning neuromas of creativity, as the writer H.G. Wells, with his famous machine, which was never more than a simple exercise in brilliant fantasy that occupies a place of honor in the great classics of Science-Fiction. Over the centuries -and this is something that the traveler comes to understand and share- the German poet and writer, Rainer María Rilke, was right when, in one of the many letters he wrote to his Master, the French sculptor, Rodin, affirmed, emphatically, that Toledo continued to be the capital of forgotten empires. And this becomes evident, not only observing it from a general panoramic view, but also, as the traveler enters its streets and feels, that in a matter of a few meters, he stops stepping on a Christian area, to enter neighborhoods of ancient essence Muslim and also Jewish, which led Rilke to take such a name. Although he really fell short, because he could have changed it for this one, more adjusted and meritorious: Toledo, undisputed capital of the Three Cultures of the Book.

Un paseo por Toledo, resulta siempre una invitación a viajar al pasado, sin el inconveniente de intentar llevar a la práctica la Teoría de la Relatividad, de Albert Einstein ni tampoco quemar neuromas de creatividad, como hizo el escritor H.G. Wells, con su famosa máquina, que nunca pasó de ser un simple ejercicio de brillante fantasía que ocupa un lugar de honor en los grandes clásicos de la Ciencia-Ficción. Al cabo de los siglos -y eso es algo que llega a comprender y a compartir el viajero- tenía razón el poeta y escritor alemán, Rainer María Rilke, cuando en una de las numerosas cartas que le escribía a su Maestro, el escultor francés, Rodin, afirmaba, rotundamente, que Toledo continuaba siendo la capital de olvidados imperios. Y esto se hace evidente, no sólo observándola desde una panorámica general, sino también, a medida que el viajero se introduce por sus calles y siente, que en cuestión de unos metros, deja de pisar zona cristiana, para introducirse en barrios de antigua esencia musulmana y también judía, que llevaron a Rilke a tomar tal denominación. Aunque realmente se quedó corto, pues podría haberla cambiado por ésta otra, más ajustada y meritoria: Toledo, capital indiscutible de las Tres Culturas del Libro.
