[ENG-SPN] Fantastic and legendary forts / Fantásticos y legendarios castros

Of the strong presence that Celtic culture had in that distant and mysterious Spain, to which historians of the classical world, such as Strabo, referred with the curious name of 'Ophiusa' or 'country of snakes' -this theme, the serpentine, which not only constituted the origin of numerous myths, but, in addition, was inextricably associated with Evil and represented with excessive effusion in the ornamentation of numerous churches of Romanesque architecture- the North of the peninsula still preserves numerous testimonies that immerse us, at least in part, in that curious lifestyle of a culture, whose antagonism, not only generated all kinds of florid traditions perpetuated throughout generations, but, which, also, was the ideal source from which unforgettable characters emerged, such as Asterix, Obelix and the druid Panoramix, whose archetypal force was even exploited by that factory of dreams, which is or was, depending on how you look at it, Hollywood.

Not all of them were located on the shores of legendary seas and oceans, such as the Cantabrian Sea or the Atlantic, but, following the example of those enigmatic 'Peoples of the Sea', who left their still incomprehensible testimony on the rocks, through the hieroglyphic symbolism of the petroglyphs, they went into the interior, merging with the indigenous peoples they found on their way.

This is the case of this enigmatic Asturian fort, located on the edge of a small village called Coaña, very close to the border with the Galician community of Lugo, among whose countrymen, especially the older ones, there still circulate this type of wonderful legends, always associated with these places, which speak of wonderful beings, 'the mouros', who, associated, comparatively speaking, with the surprising elven worlds of Tolkien, would live beneath the ruins, in extraordinary underground cities and who, on occasions, would meet human beings, rewarding their kindness or punishing their greed.

De la fuerte presencia que la cultura celta tuvo en aquella lejana y misteriosa España, a la que historiadores del mundo clásico, como Estrabón, se referían con el curioso nombre de ‘Ophiusa’ o ‘país de las serpientes’ -tema este, el serpentil, que no sólo constituyó el origen de numerosos mitos, sino, que, además, quedó indisolublemente asociado con el Mal y representado con excesiva efusión en la ornamentación de numerosas iglesias de arquitectura románica- el Norte peninsular conserva todavía numerosos testimonios que nos sumergen, al menos en parte de ese curioso estilo de vida de una cultura, cuyo antagonismo, no sólo generó toda clase de floridas tradiciones perpetuadas a lo largo de generaciones, sino, que, también, fue la fuente ideal de donde surgieron personajes inolvidables, como Asterix, Obélix y el druida Panorámix, cuya fuerza arquetípica fue incluso explotada por esa fábrica de sueños, que es o que fue, según se mire, Hollywood.

No todos estaban enclavados a la vera de mares y océanos legendarios, como el Cantábrico o el Atlántico, sino, que, siguiendo el ejemplo de aquellos enigmáticos ‘Pueblos del Mar’, que fueron dejando su todavía incomprensible testimonio en las rocas, mediante el jeroglífico simbolismo de los petroglifos, se adentraron en el interior, fundiéndose con los pueblos autóctonos que iban encontrando en su camino.

Es el caso de este enigmático castro asturiano, situado a la vera de un pequeño pueblecito, de nombre Coaña, muy cerca de la frontera con la comunidad gallega de Lugo, entre cuyos paisanos, sobre todo, en los más viejos, todavía circulan ese tipo de maravillosas leyendas, asociadas siempre a estos lugares, que hablan de unos seres maravillosos, ‘los mouros’, que, asociados, comparativamente hablando, a los sorprendentes mundos élficos de Tolkien, vivirían debajo de las ruinas, en extraordinarias ciudades subterráneas y que, en ocasiones, se encontrarían con los seres humanos, recompensando su bondad o castigando su avaricia.
