Castilla in black and white # 3: Heritage
Someone once said that there is no corner in Castile that an old Romanesque church does not give a good shade.
Thus, it could be said that there is no corner of Castilian, no matter how remote it may be, where the mysterious itinerant brotherhoods of medieval stonemasons did not sow solar, metaphorically speaking, that would serve as an exorcism for that melancholic and taciturn muleteer of the roads, which is the devil.
Wherever they are seen, now afflicted with loneliness and mortified by the lacerating lashes of time, they were the schools where the common people, condemned to illiteracy by stigma of birth, learned the rudiments of a certain education, based on the psychic strength of the images and their symbolic content.
Metaphorical awakening, moreover, that in a certain transcendent sense, was in accordance with the orientation of its unique headwaters: towards the East, the birthplace of the sun and also the direction of Jerusalem, the Holy City where a universal epic was developed, which it is still far from over.
For this reason and because they also preserve the faith and traditions of countless generations of Castilians, inhabited and for having, they constitute something more than a common element of their peoples: their best patrimonial heritage.
