Street of the Jews - Rua dos Judeus
Hello Friends! - Olá Amigos!
Today my photos are of the Street of the Jews, a very historic street of my city. This street is now filled with bars and restaurants that in the night especially on weekends are crowded. At Carnival time is the point where we can see performances of lyric blocks, frevo orchestras and maracatu groups.
Hoje as minhas fotos são da Rua dos Judeus, uma rua muito histórica da minha cidade. Essa rua hoje é repleta de bares e restaurantes que durante a noite em especial nos finais de semana ficam lotados. Na época do carnaval é ponto onde podemos ver apresentações de blocos líricos, orquestras de frevo e grupos de maracatu.
On Sundays, we can see in that street a craft fair, fine arts and various food stalls that are ownership of descendants of Jews who lived in this street during the XVI century. (I will present this craft fair to you in another post)
Aos domingos podemos ver nessa rua uma feira de artesanato, artes plásticas e diversas bancas de comida que são de propriedade de descentes desses judeus que habitavam essa rua durante o século XVI. (Irei apresentar essa feira a vocês em outro post)
This street became known as the "Street of the Jews" because it was the main access road, where the Israelite who lived in Recife during the XVI century, especially during the Dutch Invasion of Pernambuco, had their businesses.
Essa rua ficou conhecida como a “Rua dos Judeus” pois ela era a principal via de acesso, onde os israelitas que viviam no Recife durante o século XVI, em especial durante a invasão holandesa em Pernambuco, tinham os seus negócios.
In this street the Israelite raised their synagogue "Kahal Zur Israel" (Rock of Israel) which is the first synagogue of the Americas.
Nessa rua os israelitas ergueram a sinagoga “Kahal Zur Israel” (Rocha de Israel) que é a primeira sinagoga de todas as Américas.
Because of persecution suffered by the Jews here in the city after the expulsion of the Dutch by the Portuguese, they were forced to flee from Recife going to New York, where they built a synagogue, have increased trade and business in that American city and that without exaggeration we can say that the Jews who left Recife "founded the city and New York capitalism."I believe this is the biggest link that we see between Recife and New York.
Devido a perseguição sofrida pelos judeus aqui na cidade após a expulsão dos holandeses pelos portugueses, eles foram obrigados a fugirem do Recife indo para Nova Iorque, onde construíram uma sinagoga, fizeram crescer o comércio e os negócios naquela cidade americana de tal forma que sem exagero podemos dizer que os Judeus que saíram daqui do Recife “fundaram a cidade e o capitalismo de Nova Iorque”. Eu creio que esse seja o maior elo de ligação que vemos entre Recife e Nova Iorque.
