CULTURAL PAKISTANI/MUSLIM WEDDING: DAY 3/3

in #photography7 years ago

We have reached the final stretch of the wedding, Day number 3 , which is usually the shortest, I am sre everyone is probably tired from the last two days that they attended. This day is called the "Waleema" and is usually given from the Brides side. The word itself means gathering. The couples and family gets together to congradualte the couple, there are really no rituals or ceramonies done on this day since the first two days were full of them. One thing to note, in order for the food to be halal, the couple has to have made some sort of contact with one another the day before, sounds crazy right? This day is just a big feast for both sides of the family to give their wishes and blessings before the couple goes on with their life. Usually when the fnction is over, the bride is escorted out of the hall with th Holy Quran on top of her head by her father.

Now that the function of all three days comes to an end, the woman that God has created is now sent to her new home, away from her family. The woman usually has to live with her husband and In-laws. This was the saddest time for me a year ago, leaving my parents to come to a new home and call them my parents, it was a very big change, It was like living with strangers at first since I only met my husband a day or two before, literally at the wedding. It was a big change to adapt to, living with people I had neevr really made too much contact with. Lots of females out there suffer after this and some are happy, our culture is ver much different than a lot of cultures, I guess thats what makes everyone differnet.

Which day was your favorite, 1 , 2 , or 3? Here are some pictures of a Waleema function.
