National Parks and Monuments - Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

I thought I would start my Steemit writing career by introducing the community to our wonderful U. S. National Parks. The United States has 59 protected areas known as national parks that are operated by the National Park Service. Our National Park journey begins in the great state of Wyoming with the Grand Teton National Park followed by the Yellowstone National Park.

The Grand Teton National Park is located in northwestern Wyoming just south of Yellowstone National Park and just north of the town of Jackson. Visitors can reach the park through U.S. 191.

The elevation of the park ranges from 6,400 feet on the sagebrush-dominated valley floor to 13,770 feet on the windswept granite summit of the Grand Teton. Between the summit and plain, forests carpet the mountainsides.

During summer, wildflowers paint meadows in vivid colors.

Crystalline alpine lakes fill glacial cirques, and noisy streams cascade down rocky canyons to larger lakes at the foot of the range. These lakes, impounded by glacial debris, mirror the mountains on calm days.

Running north to south, the Snake River winds its way down the valley and across this amazing scene.

The park's mountain range is very popular among climbers, hikers and photographers.

Grand Teton National Park offers hiking, camping, climbing, boating, kayaking and numerous photography opportunities. A road winds through the park, but the best way to experience the park is to take one of its shorter trails.

One last thing will need to do is visit the Craig Thomas Discovery and Visitor Center (CTDVC) which offers trip planning, weather, permits and camping information.

Enjoy modern displays that explore the themes of place, people, preservation and mountaineering or view a collection of Native American Indian artifacts from the Vernon Collection. A raised relief map of the park provides a birds-eye-view of the valley, canyons, lakes and peaks. you can also follow peak identifiers inlaid in the floor to view your favorite peak. While in the Center, watch a 24-minute high-definition movie...Grand Teton National Park: Life on the Edge by Discovery Communications, Inc., or take a stroll along the Video Rivers.

This concludes our brief overview of what you will see and do at the Grand Teton National Park!

The mountains look amazing!

You should visit them. They are majestic and very big! The article doesn't emphasis the abundance of wildlife that the visitor will most likely see.
