Anything to do with trains will attract me Melinda, we grew up with steam and electric trains, steam was my favourite.
The sooty smell, old wooden carriages creaking slowly swaying down the lines, best memories of childhood, thanks for taking us down a walk in memory lane.
There are a few places in Wisconsin that do steam train runs for tourists to ride on. It's usually an hour or so ride, but it feels like stepping back in time.
My dad used to tell of his mom dropping whatever she was doing and frantically racing to get her freshly dried clothes off the line before the steam train came through town and sprinkled everything with bits of soot.
We have a couple of steam trains privately run, perhaps it is time to go and enjoy once again. Sadly this will not be the same as what we had, more commercial as a sight seeing outing for a couple of hours.
That's what we have, too, and you are right. It is not the same.
