Izamal, Mexico Monastery
Izamal is a town in the Yucatan state in southern Mexico. It is known as the Yellow City, and you can probably guess the reason why by the photo below. This picture is of one of the entrances to the main attraction in town, the Convento de San Antonio de Padua.

Cool shot and cool building. How do you find traveling around Mexico?
We went last year for all of February and part of March and it was awesome. The famous places, like Chichen Itza or Cancun are totally overrun with tourists but there are also lots of really great places to visit that aren't as heavily visited. My favorites were Campeche, Rio Lagartos, Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve, and the archeological sites around Xpujil. Uxmal was nice too.
It is really easy to get around by bus and we also rented cars a couple of times and that was nice. Mexicans don't drive crazy like some other places I've been to. I know that Mexico has a reputation for being dangerous now but many places we went, especially the less touristy ones, I felt like we couldn't get robbed even if we tried.
Having said all that, I should say that my wife and I are both fluent in Spanish, so that really helps a lot. And I mean a LOT. We're in Tunisia at the moment and I'm really regretting not learning some French before coming here.
