Pope John Paul II Tower

Way back in February 20, 1981 when million people united as one. Assembled and celebrated the Eucharist at the Bacolod Real Estate Development Corporation or known as BREDCO area in Bacolod City Negros Occidental. This was the first biggest event here in Negros when Bacolod was chosen to be visited by our glorious Pope John Paul II.
After 30 years to commemorate the day he landed to our place. Pope John Paul II tower was built to give credit to him.

Pope John Paul II Tower was unveiled by his Grace Archbishop Edward Joseph Adams, Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines, with the assistance of Bishop Vicente M. Navarra, D.D., Bishop of Bacolod and Rev. Fr. Felix Pasquin , Rector of San Sebastian Cathedral on the occassion of the blessing of the Pope John Paul II Tower on February 18, 2010.

It is a light museum where memorabilia's of our late Pope John Paul II was kept, stored and maintained here.
The tower is a seven storey building where each floor tells a story about papal life on and before he became a Pope.

The Pope John Paul II Tower is located at the Reclamation area, along BREDCO Port in between the North and South access road in SM City. The said tower is easy to identify because of its height. It is very visible to see if you are heading down to the reclamation area. You can take a pedecab ride or take a 10 minutes walk from the Bacolod Public Plaza.

From the outside you will be seeing an entry point at left side of the building. Then pay 10 pesos entrance fee for students presenting a valid ID's and 20 pesos for regular visitor.

Income from daily fee's goes to the maintenance of the building including the electricity and improving the facilities.

Vision - Mission

THE POPE JOHN PAUL II TOWER IS A PILGRIMAGE CENTER THAT EMBODIES AND PERPETUATES THE IDEAS, LIFE, ADVOCACIES, COMMITMENT AND HOLINESS OF POPE JOHN PAUL II AN ARDENT PROMOTER OF LIFE AND THE CULTURE OF LOVE

From the ground floor you will be seeing Pope John Paul II sculptured from wood forming its half body structure. Then other images was added to express the emotion of the artist who made it. To make sure it will last it is fully sanded, treated, and coated with varnished to preserve it and free from penetrating pest.

Then as you are exploring every floor while reading some of the context affixed below of some paintings. You will definitely enjoy as you keep this to your self as your best trip experience.

THE PAPAL CHAIR AND CAP

Used as the pontifical throne by his holiness Pope John Paul II during his pastoral visit to Bacolod City on February 20, 1981.
A gift of love from the Holy Father from Dr. and Mrs. Antonio L. Corral and Mr. and Mrs. Aurelio L. Lacson.

From each corner of selected floors you will be seeing old photographs of our late Pope John Paul II.
The first set of images was taken during his visit here in Bacolod in 1981. While he's on the caravan waving to the million people and meet-up with locals.

Three months after Pope John Paul visited Bacolod City to be exact on May 13, 1981 in St. Peter's Square. He was shot by a gunned man during his visit. This image testifies how Mother Mary protected Pope John Paul II while he was holding a Rosary. According to the person who took the image like other busy people taking photographs on that day. There is lady rushing towards to John and embraced to protect him then vanished after.

"Your commitment to Christ and the church.... is a challenge to your leaders and your bishops to be close to you and to work with you for a better Christian community and for a better world"

With these words he bid goodbye to all the young men and women who had joined him in this phase of the continuing journey of the World Youth Day. He spoke to them, the youth of the world, in the words of their home-land. In 11 different languages he thank them for their zealous response to his call, and send them off to be his disciples for their nation and for the world.

Pope John Paul Tower II is one of the rare structure with impressive historical background here in the Philippines. This was the first place that was built to give honor to our late Pope John Paul II. Where his holiness and love was admired by millions of Filipino people. He was the first person who give impact and imparted a big portion to every people hearts who believed in Christ. Diocese of Bacolod City is well determined to maintain the Pope John Paul II Tower. If you have plan to visit Bacolod never forget to include this place to your list of itinerary. It tells how we became part of Pope John Paul II life when he was alive.

All the images was originally taken using my Nikon Coolpix S2700 camera. Then some context are manually input from the printed documentary with local stamps beside those images and memorabilia.

Woah never knew we have this in Bacolod. Hoping to visit bacolod again one of these days.

meron po.. matagal napo itong building malapit lang sa SM.. papuntang port ng barko.. first time in history ito dito.. sayang nga d pko napanganak niyan that time..

Reminds me of World Youth Day that he (Pope John Paul) initiated. It's sad we don't hear about World Youth Day being broadcasted these days. It was a huge event back in the 80's and 90's.
