Becoming A Model / Influencer
My name is Jessalyn, I have been modelling professionally for 2 years now. Modelling is my passion and that is what I do to make some money for living. Here are some of the photo-shoot that I have done in the past.
It is a Fun lifestyle. Many people want to be a part of this lifestyle, many of them want to be in this glamorous fashion industry. Here are some of my opinion for your reference if you want to become a model. Some may just be a myth.
OPINION #1 - HEIGHT
To be a model you would definitely must have a certain height. For girls, you should be around 5 feet 7, which is around 173cm. For guys, you should be around 6 feet, which is around 182cm. Is this a myth? Well, these requirements are mostly for Runway Model that perform catwalks on stage, where designer really want you to be tall to fit in their clothes well. Slowly when I share my other portfolio with you, you will see that most of the time I am not even standing in the photo, you can't even see my whole body, most of them are half body, some are just with the face and so on.
OPINION #2 - AGE
You have to be young and fresh to be a model. Some agencies may reject you because they look for young people, as young as 17 or 18 years old. "You look beautiful and gorgeous but we can't sign you because you are already 24, by the time we build your portfolio you are going to retire." Don't too worry about that, there are a lot of Mrs. Malaysia that are modelling, as a social media influencer even after they have get married and give birth.
OPINION #3 - THICK SKIN
You need to have a really thick skin. In this industry it is full of rejection. It is not as easy as you go to the client and you get the job. You may have to go through 10 casting, they make you wait for 2 hours, then they ask you come back for fitting and so on. You may give you all the hope and tell you last minute that the client pick someone else. The thing is this you can't take this personally. Just do understand that it is not about you all the thing, it is just what the clients really want. They may be looking for some specific type, specific images that they want.
OPINION #4 - BODY TYPE
Girls should not be too muscular, they should be lean. Sometimes even having big boobs for girls is not a good idea. For a lot of guys, they think that they have to be a 6-pax to be a model. In fact that is not true. To be true, very few jobs require 6-pax because there is a small niche for body stuffs but the main big modelling jobs like campaign just need you to look fit, skinny, slim and fit into their clothes.
OPINION #5 SELF-CONFIDENCE
In order for you to get a job, you need to go for casting first. If a designer see you like you are shaking, they don't want to deal with you. They don't have the time for you. Show that you have the confidence to deal with all the challenges out there, be yourself, walk in for the casting, don't fake anything.

I always wanted to become a model, unfortunately, I don't have the #1 requirement which is the height, Lol. So I could just be a model on my own camera. hehe.. But this post is inspiring though and nice meeting you :)
