Breathtaking Ice Hotel Images (From Quebec City, Canada)

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

When I first visited the Ice Hotel back in 2011 I was able to capture these photographs using HDR photograph techniques with the help of a tripod. At that time The Ice Hotel website boasted over a half a million people had been to the glace fortress in frosty Quebec City. This year for the 2017/2018 season just popping off, the Ice Hotel website now claims that over a million people have visited the hotel, it's no surprise considering how mystical of a trip to a palace fashioned out of over sized ice bricks back lit by LED lights can actually be.

If the temperature in Quebec is -5.8 Fahrenheit as it is right now in or -10 Fahrenheit outside, the inside of the Ice Hotel is always at a constant temperature of about 14 Fahrenheit for the entire duration of the Ice Hotel season, even when the temperatures start to rise outside, the inside of the hotel stays at a constant 14 Fahrenheit regardless of how warm or cold the temperature becomes outside.

This year rooms at the hotel will be available from January 4th until March 25th however visitors have been welcome to start visiting the Ice Hotel December 25 before the official opening date. Although visitors will not be able to spend the night sleeping on a bed made out of gigantic ice cubes using a Nordic sleeping bag, visitors will be able to go to the bar and have a mandatory pipping hot cup of delicious cocoa or an alcoholic beverage to warm up the body as well as tour the Hotel and capture images before guest are invited to spend a night. This year I'm reading on the hotel website there will be 45 themed rooms as well as hot tubs and a sauna. If you're wondering how an Ice Hotel can put a sauna in a castle made of Ice, that stunt has to be seen to be believed.

If you're really going to break down what you get if you spend the night at the Ice Hotel, let me put it to you like this, yes there are packages starting at about $219 Canadian for a single night sleeping in Sub-Zero temperatures however the packages that are topping out at $500 offer features like dog sledding with shuttle service and Sparkling Ice cider cocktail served in an ice flute as well as breakfast and access to an indoor water park as well as an indoor hotel room if any guest become uncomfortable sleeping in essentially what is the fanciest Igloo anyone has ever seen. If a guest is too cold staying in a room where the warmest a room can be is -5.8 F. Technically the hotel offers guests an indoor room complimentary for those who find the gimmick of sleeping in bone chilling temperatures over the top. Once the ice attraction closes for the day to the general public and guest can actually retire to their unique themed room draw a curtain for privacy and call it a night. When a guest finds themselves asking what they got themselves into around 1:45 am, there is a relief from the bitter cold and a warm room for any guests who decides a trip to the hotel for a day visit is more than enough and sleeping in the Ice Hotel rooms completely unnecessary.
