Black Beetle Up Close
I found this beetle in a pool skimmer this morning, and brought him home to take some photos. He's a little jittery, and it's difficult to get him to stay still for very long, but I think I got some good ones.
This is with Canon SL1, 100mm 2.8f Macro lens with a 2.5x magnification, and a macro Ring light - which is just gorgeous.
Here's the size of the beetle, the quarter is about the size of an American quarter.

Hot damn, those are stunning!!!
Amazing detail on its mandibles! Very well done!
Thanks. I've tried the extension tube as well but I really dislike not having control over aperture, plus I haven't been able to get a clean focus so far. The 2.5x magnification Raynox filter was really worth it, would recommend.
Cool!
Wow! I'm glad I'm bigger than he is.
excellent image :)
Crazy, nice shots.
Love it.
The first one looks like the Mezzanine album by Massive Attack! Very cool @jamtaylor! (;
