Photography Series--Downtown Springfield, MO After A Rainstorm

in #photography7 years ago

Hello and welcome to one of my photography series entitled, "Springfield, MO After A Rainstorm". This series of photographs was actually taken prior to a cosplay photo shoot later on that day, of which a few of the best images will be shown in a later article. The goal of the series you see in this article is to showcase the urban environment not always seen by the public. It is a place most people do not travel, but has a lot of hidden beauty within it.

This photo is simplistically titled, "Industrial", for obvious reasons. As mundane as the subject matter may be, it still offered the chance to play around with light exposure and color of the shot. The diagonal lines produced by the power lines also draw the eye rather well, and I thought it would make a good piece.

This is the first of a three-part miniseries of photos entitled, "After the Downpour", and was taken about 15 minutes after a massive drench occurred. The road nearly became a river! The light reflections off of the receding rainwater were what made this piece gorgeous, so I played it up.

This photo was taken to show the storm that had passed through and left all the rain. As such, (and I know my titles are a bit simplistic in nature) the title of this piece is, "The Storm Has Passed". According to a friend of mine, Springfield, MO has storms like these rather often. I find this to be interesting to say the least.

This piece is the third installment of the "After the Downpour" miniseries. This shows the more rural area of town that is just across the street from the first image in the series shown above. As you can see, the storm clouds are still fairly dark, but offer just enough light rays to make the area serene and lush.

This is an image entitled, "Wet Pizza Box". I took this photo because it was an interesting juxtaposition from the urban area and the rural area surrounding it. It looks like litter, but is actually a way for the homeless in the area to mark their space, thus making the image at first appear humorous, but then sad.

This piece is basically the same as the above "After the Downpour I" piece, but I played more with the light reflection and the overexposure of the image. It is entitled "Downtown Springfield Overexposed".

This is a photo entitled, "Deep Urban II", and is named as such because of the uniqueness of the decrepit building. It looks kind of frightening due to how old and unkempt it looks, but in that offers great texture and color. The angle also gives some fantastic line work within the image, making it intriguing.

This is a photo entitled, "Deep Urban I", and is the front side of the building of "Deep Urban II". This image offered more to play around with in terms of color, light exposure, and diagonal lines, and is eye-catching to say the least with the light and shadows playing on the walls.

This is an elegant photo of some of the flowers found on location. They grew plentifully through the concrete in the road as well as off to the side in the more rural parts of the landscape, and serve as a great juxtaposition to the more urban buildings above. This piece is entitled, "Blue Flowers II", for their beauty.

This is another gorgeous photo of some of the same blue flowers taken on location. In this photo, I played more with the colorization and bolstered the blue and purple hues that were natural to the shot. This photo is entitled, "Blue Flowers I".

I hope you enjoyed this series of photos. May it inspire you in your own photography sessions.
