Leuser, not the highest, nor the extreme but the longest, which every step will not be forgotten while climbing
There are 4 Lines to the top of the Leuser, the Kedah, Agusan, Meukek, Khansa lines. The Kedah line is the recommended path. The Agusan track is longer & longer, while the Meukek Line is very steep which requires special equipment.
Kedah is in Penosan Sepakat Village, Blangjerango District, Gayo Lues District. The length of the Kedah line from Kedah Resort Office (Base Camp) to Gunung Leuser Peak is + 51 Km with 47 km in it is Primary Forest with normal travel time 7 to 8 days. There is almost no human activity at all apart from climbing along the path of climbing which is an active path of wildlife especially the Great Mammals such as Tiger, Goat Forest, Deer, etc.
Day 1: Kedah - Water Stream (+ 5.5 Km)
Day 2: Simpang Air - Peak Angkasan (+ 4.5 Km)
Day 3: Peak of Angkasan - Rhino Trek (+ 5.5 Km)
Day 4: Rhino Trek - Blang Beke / Grassland (+ 7 Km)
Day 5: Blang Beke / Grassland - Pond Badak (+ 6 Km)
Day 6: Rhino Pond - Bipak Kaleng (+ 8 Km)
Day 7: Bipak Tin - Ball Field (+ 8.5 Km)
Day 8: Ball Field - Leuser Peak (+ 6 Km)
Day 9-13: Ball Field - Kedah (+ 51 Km)
Currently the frequency of climbing Mount Leuser is still very low. This is due to very minimal information & still lack of promotion. Most internet browsing results still feature old information that is sometimes misleading to potential climbers. To increase the number of visits to Gunung Leuser, the National Park in collaboration with the people of Kedah, especially the service providers of Mount Leuser to improve services and improve the climbing management of Mount Leuser. To that end, TNGL Center initiated the formation of Leuser Mentalu Self-Help Group (KSM) in 2011 which became an embryo in cooperation in forest protection & Nature Tourism Development Climbing of Gunung Leuser. Year 2013 has been built Kedah Resort Office which functioned as a place of climbing permit
