Thanks for that informative and great post but I'm not quite sure what you mean with the negative spaces in your 5th picture?
It's just an area where there is space. Although there are water drops on the plane window, there is still really a lot of space on the upper left side of the image. The focus of the shot is the plane wheel and the splash.
