Fashion Film Shoot turned Nightmare (PART 1)

in #photography8 years ago (edited)

The brand claims to have never even hired us to begin with. The magazine insists that they did. Who's the con artist?

From start to finish it took about 1 month and 14 people to make this fashion film shoot happen in Seoul, South Korea. We delivered 3 fashion films featuring gym-wear.

Who would make up a project to deceive a filmmaker, an editor of a magazine, 5 assistants, a make-up artist, 3 models, a stylist and 2 photographers?

Who would make us all believe an American brand was hiring a London-based magazine to produce and publish a fashion film series featuring their new gym-wear?

After weeks of not getting paid, a dozen emails, we made that final call, it is then that we realized:
We've been conned.

However, we spent so much time and work on this project.. Why not have a laugh about it, and share our experience and production on steemit?

Here's our Fashion Film Shoot turned Nightmare

Brief:

  • 3 fashion films featuring the brand's new gym-wear for men in an aesthetic way
  • 3 male fitness-models
  • feature exercises: kettlebell, body (animal flow) and surfing
  • films will be featured in a magazine

Step 1: The Film proposals

The film proposals were translated in Korean, then sent off to the client for approval.

Step 2: The Shoot

Regardless how early call-times may be, shooting day is always the best part of production.
We get to be creative together, have fun, and shoot.

I'm a morning person.

The photographer booked a big studio, so that theres plenty of space for a good workout.

One by one the models were groomed, one by one, we'd shoot them.

They'd do their exercise routine several times, so that we could shoot from various angles and with different lighting effects.

Those fitness models had to sweat a lot.

The assistants had multiple roles, from moving equipment around, to playing with lighting, or to being the light-testing models. They were having a blast..

Step 3: Edit the film, license the music

2 weeks were spent in the editing suite. Each fashion film is about 1 minute long, I also purchased the music licenses, since "the client" signed them off.

Step 4: Send your invoice, and get paid, distribute the films.

First the client has to pay, then they may publish our work.. Well, we never got paid.

Turns out there was never a client.

The freelance-life like everyone elses, has it's ups and downs.. but this fraud project, has to be one of the most shocking things I've encountered so far. Unfortunately, before we found out that there was never a client, the con-artist took things way overboard. This nightmare just kept getting worse, I wish we were sleeping, but this is a true story.
