SteemitPhotoChallenge #45 - Celebrations 📷 Entry I+II: Loy Krathong Festival - Thailand
Hey lovely Steemians, I hope you’re doing great!
Today’s post is my entry into the SteemitPhotoChallenge #45 which has the theme celebrations ♥
As I’ve told you before, I’m traveling Sout East Asia at the moment. Last November, I had the amazing opportunity to celebrate Loy Krathong Festival in Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand.
Loy Krathong is the so-called festival of lights and its name could be translated as “to float as basket”. Traditionally people decorate baskets and float them on a river to pay respect to Buddha. Also, people light up paper lanterns and let them float into the sky, which refers to flying away misfortune and wishing for good luck in the future.
Being in Chiang Mai during Loy Krathong was spectacular as most temples in the city were beautifully decorated with colorful lanterns. We spent the main celebrations on the bridge over the Ping river watching thousands of glittering lights float away.
