Hi Steemians

I recently visit to Mankhurd and Govandi, Mumbai, one of the biggest un-organised slum of Asia with population of about 10 - 12 lakhs. I would I have never imagined that people live in such horrifying conditions (Frankly speaking "Hell").

It is said "Mumbai is one of those dream cities of world which gives you employment and money but does not give you much space to live".

But during this visit this myth also got distorted a large population of youth in these area (graduate and trained) are unemployed. Those who are employed earn around (at max.) 100 - 200 USD per month and that employment are also not permanent. Migrants from all over India live in this area.

Most of the pictures you see are of children of Sathe Nagar, Mankhurd. When I entered slums with my Dslr and Zoom recorder (as we also some interview), children were fascinated by Dslr and followed me. They wanted me to take their photos alone, with their friends and wanted speak something on my zoom recorder. They were the stars who made my day.

Now all that I am talking about can found in many slums but now twist in the story comes,

In Mankhurd their is a biological waste disposable plant. As you can see in picture just 100-200 m away from slums. It is said if this plant shuts all hospitals in Mumbai and Thane will stop working because this plant disposes nearly 100% of hospital wastes. Life expectancy in Mankhurd is 40 years (average). People here suffer from many skin diseases and breathing problems. But still many NGO's and activists are working very hard to get that plant shut down.

Someone whom I was interviewing said to me
"You see every night lighted Cityscape of Mumbai if rich class are energy behind this light then we are bulbs and street light who burn ourselves to emit light, if we are not their will be a blackout. Everything that exists has its importance."

Camera I used was Canon 5d mark 2. Though I am not very good photographer but I can always investigate and tell new stories from world around me. On 21st Feb Wednesday I was in Mankhurd.

no one cares about this children's futures.

Your are absolutely right. Many children from this locality when come to teenage fall into dungeon of drugs and but still a great hope, I came to know all the parents of these area are very well aware of importance of education. They burn themselves out to give them a good education. As for education in India is very costly.

india have big two problems. political corruption and peoples population. No one can solve this problem for them
