Mobile Photography,Ramadan,Iftar:Food
Millions of Muslims throughout the world come together to celebrate end of fasting with Iftar.Muslims traditionally first break the fast with dates and either water or a yogurt drink. The fasting begins at dawn and lasts until sunset, when observers break their fast with an evening meal called the Iftar. After Maghrib prayer, they then have a full-course meal, consisting of soup, salad, appetizers and main dishes. In some cultures, the full-course meal is delayed into later in the evening or even early morning. Traditional foods vary by country.
Muslims have shared their favourite memories from iftars, and debunked misconceptions about Ramadan and fasting. An iftar is on the most basic of levels such a keenly looked forward to meal that it’s joyful regardless. That joy is elevated when shared with others.
Iftar is very much a social event, involving family and community members. It is common for people to host others for dinner, or gather as a community for a potluck.
Another beautiful aspect of my Ramadan is the exchanging of iftars with our neighbours.
The festival falls in the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and fasting is intended to bring followers closer to Allah.
During Ramadan, Muslims are only permitted to eat food before sunrise and sunset.
For the common people iftars simply provide an opportunity for the whole family to sit together and the children are given lessons in devotion, love, care, sharing and humility. Family bonding is reaffirmed.
It was a wonderful event! The hospitality, respect and generosity of the Muslim community was astounding! I have made some new friends and eaten some wonderful food! A perfect evening.
