Walking Trip At The Viru Bog In Estonia
We have so many different bogs and swamps in Estonia, in fact, 22,3% of all the country is a wetland. I have been to so many of them yet I have never seen half of them. I went to a bog ( can't remember the name right now ) a week ago but this is a topic of another post. This time we are going back in time a little and I will show you the Viru bog in northern Estonia. I visited this place pretty much a little over a year ago. I remember that this was the first really warm day of the year and my friends agreed that we should do something. I proposed that we should go to this bog for a walk. So we went on a short one-day car trip and visited some other places as well. I already wrote about those places last year.
So Viru bog is located in the northern part of the country, in Harjumaa region. This bog itself is pretty small when compared with the other ones but it contains pretty much everything you can see in a wetland. Since the cold times have just passed, many of the small lakes were still ice covered.
Through the bog leads a trail 3.5 kilometers long and you can walk on the wooden pathway.
This place is also a pretty huge tourist attraction because it's not too far away from the Estonian capital Tallinn.
In the center of the bog you can also find a viewing tower where you can climb on. Up there appears a nice view over all the place.
For fun, I also add a shot never intended for uploading to Steemit. Its a group shot I took where I'm also on, the guy with a yellow jacket.
There is also a fun story behind this photo. While I had my camera on a timer. One of the guys farted really hard just before the shot and disturbed the waiting in silence. This is why we are all laughing hard on this photo.
I hope it was an exciting walk trip... Beautiful photos!
Definitely was, thanx!
Have you ever swan in a bog? The little ponds warm up nicely and I’m sure they have some healing properties, but damn it is scary. The water looks black and you are scared to touch the soft bottom, if you can even reach it. Your mind fills in the blanks with horror stories of drowned bodies and monsters.
Hmm, I dont actually remember. Not in the near past anyway. It is a little scary yes but noone lives there due to lack of oxygen in the water. Not sure about the bodies that wont decompose yes :D
I think it's the tallest guy with bare chest putting on black glasses. I'm sure I'm right. The body language hints at him
