Hotels in La Ceiba

Sorry about the finger in the top part of the photo, I am not a good photographer and the pictures are taken with a cheap cell phone. This is the Hotel Paris the oldest hotel in La Ceiba, it was one of the first if not the first hotel to function in the city, in fact this is where my father stayed for a couple of weeks after getting off a ship at La Ceiba wharf, which at that time 1950, was bustling with activity he liked the country and well, here I am. This hotel was the best then, and is still one of the better hotels in town.

This is the Iberia Hotel, this hotel was made by a Spaniard who used to manage the San Carlos hotel one of the older hotels in town (it is no longer working) well the Spanish guy decided he would build this hotel and take over the business which was mostly Island people who come over every week to do their shopping, it still caters mostly to Islanders and is one of the hotels that makes good business.

This is the Hotel Ceiba it was built early in the 1970's as competence for the Hotel Paris, I used to stay here when I was a kid still maybe 12 or 13 years old because my father who had been a client of the Hotel Paris had an argument with that hotel's owner and told him to fuck off and changed hotels. This one was a nice hotel had an elevator, no pool but did have a good restaurant, unfortunately the sorry business and tourist climate we now have in La Ceiba made it go broke so it is now for sale.

This one is a new hotel, it belongs to a friend of mine so I am advertising it, it is in the center of town two blocks from the ocean, very safe has a big parking lot, they had breakfast included in the price I am not sure if they still do. It is one of the newer hotels , the prices are good, it is not a five star hotel but if you want something comfortable and safe and at a good price I think this is a good choice, it's name is Hotel Mar Azul.

Art Deco Beach Hotel. This one was built by I believe an Israeli American, it has never really taken off, even though it is a few meters from the ocean, the promenade and the tourist wharf. It has nice rooms a good restaurant but doesn't have many customers I have no idea why, I know the building is for sale.

This is La Quinta Real probably the best hotel in town, it has most of the commodities you would expect from a first class hotel even a small private beach, of course it is more expensive than the rest but I guess that just depends on a person's budget.

Well these are a few of the hotels available in La Ceiba, there actually are at least 30 or 40 more hotels, ranging from very good to outright sleazy, plus of course a few motels. We used to have a lot of hostels catering to backpackers, you know with communal bathrooms and baths, rooms for three or five people and very cheap prices but the climate of uneasiness that permeates the countries has very few backpackers coming to La Ceiba, I believe the ones who do come to the country stay at Copan Ruinas close to the Mayan ruins of Copan or they just pass through La Ceiba and grab the ferry for the Bay Islands.

La Ceiba used to be a booming tourist town, even though the beaches in town aren't worth much but you can find terrific beaches , incredible mountain streams, white water rafting, mountain hiking, canopy just minutes from the city center. I guess we just need to assure tourists that things are not really as bad as the news say, we do have murder and other crimes, but mostly these happen in isolated areas, I mean if you go into a hot zone, which anyone can tell you where they are, you are in fact asking for it, you have to just visit places which the local people tell you are safe and you should be ok. Of course sometimes you find trouble where you least expect it, but come on, life is an adventure.

And I think Honduras is really worth visiting it has very nice people and great natural scenery.
