I recently started experimenting with a program called GIMP. GIMP is a cross-platform image editor available for GNU/Linux, OS X, Windows and more operating systems. It is free software. It is in my opinion, the second best thing to Photoshop. So if you can't afford a copy photoshop this program offers almost all the same features and function. I made this image below as an example of what someone with little experience can do.
