📷 Reptiles in the Aquarium Berlin #6: A special and rare kind of crocodilian: The Gharial! (English/German)
In this part I will show you a very special animal, which is listed as Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List: The Gharial! It is a crocodilian of the family Gavialidae and it is native to the northern part of the Indian Subcontinent.
[German] In diesem Teil möchte ich euch ein sehr spezielles Tier zeigen, welches als sehr gefährdet auf der Liste gefährdeter Arten der Weltnaturschutzunion IUCN steht: Der Gangesgavial! Es ist eine Krokodil-Art der Familie Gavialis und lebt in der Natur im nördlichen Teil von Indien.

The male Gharials are easy to identify on their hollow bulbous nasal protuberance at the tip of the snout.

In our store, we have a 39" fossil Dyrosaur skull. It is an ancestor to this type of crocodilian.
