This series will go country by country through my two-year trip. I plan on sharing some experiences, thoughts, and photos of each country that I visited.

Country by Country 14: Italy

My brother @doctorcrypto left Istanbul early in the morning. I had a few hours to kill, then took a taxi to the airport. The flight to Rome was short and painless. Rome was the only place in Italy that I visited on this trip.

I had arranged with my guesthouse to be picked up from the airport. The owners of the guesthouse were kind and gave me a little tour of the neighborhood before checking me into my room. After I put my bags down, I went out for a walk.

Normally, I don't do anything on travel days. I get to my room, then go out looking for food and beer. In Rome, there were amazing attractions to see right down the road. While walking, I kept coming across crazy old buildings and artifacts from the times of legend. It was awesome. I went to the Coliseum a few hours after arriving in Rome.

By this point in my trip, I was sick to death of European cities and tourists. Rome was a European city and it was full of tourists, but I still loved it. It was one of my favorite stops in Europe. I don't consider myself a history buff, but I couldn't help but be awed by all of the history on display in Rome. I consider Rome to be a must-see destination.

I ended up taking too many photos in Rome. I think I'm going to do a bonus post for Rome to show off some of the art that I saw there. This post will mostly focus on the buildings and things that I saw outside. I'll do a quick post to show off some of the indoor art later.

Here are some of my photos of Rome.

I wonder how they got this huge thing to Rome over a thousand years ago. It doesn't seem possible with modern tools, let alone ancient tools.

The Column of Marcus Aurelius. I saw two of these columns and they are my favorite thing in Rome. They are basically comic books about battle.

In Rome, they have buildings like this. They're covered in paintings, but don't even have windows.

So there you have it, some of my favorite outdoor photos from Rome.

After Rome, I went back to Germany for a couple of weeks, then I went to Portugal to meet with my mom. Stay tuned for my Portugal post, coming soon!
