Arriving in Chkalovsk, everyone immediately ran to take pictures of the "NRS building". An unusual sight - a house of culture named after Chkalov on the high bank of the Volga among one-story village houses.

The city (since 1955) Chkalovsk was renamed in honor of Valery Pavlovich Chkalov, who was born in Vasilevo. In the city there is the memorial museum of VP Chkalov - the house where in 1904 the future pilot was born and grew up. The house is now "not in its" place. When Gorkovsky was filled in 1956, the house was moved from the coastline from the flooding zone.

In the house museum of Chkalov there are many exhibits related to the life of the pilot: Valeriy's children's things, the personal belongings of the adult VP Chkalov, gifts to relatives and friends, many airplane models.

In the photographs of the 1930s Chkalov looks like a 50-year-old man, although V.P. Chkalov died when he was only 34 years old.

The model of the I-180 fighter, during the testing of which on December 15, 1938, V.P. Chkalov was killed.

Near the house-museum of Chkalov there is a hangar with real interesting gizmos.

The Po-2. A gift to V.P. Chkalov from the Soviet Government for the flight to Udd Island. The plane was in personal use of Chkalov from April 1937. On it Valery Pavlovich repeatedly flew to Vasilevo and rolled his countrymen.

Motorboat for watercraft. A gift to V.P. Chkalov from the Rybinsk boat factory. On this boat in the summer of 1937 and 1938 Chkalov skated along the Volga on the days of his arrival in Vasilevo.

Design fighter NN Polikarpov I-16. Was in service with the air forces of the Soviet Union from 1935 to 1942. Exhibited as a sample of the brand, released in mass production due to VP Chkalov.

The legendary ANT-25 (also known as RD - "distance record") is an all-metal freestanding single-engine low-wing with a large wing elongation. When building a new hangar, the aircraft was not moved, the hangar walls were erected around a standing aircraft.

In the autumn of 1935, pilot Bajdukov suggested that Chkalov organize a record flight from the USSR to the USA via the North Pole and lead the crew of the aircraft. In the spring of 1936 Chkalov, Baidukov and Belyakov appealed to the government with a proposal to conduct such a flight, but Stalin indicated another route plan: Moscow-Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The flight of Chkalov's crew from Moscow to the Far East started on July 20, 1936 and lasted 56 hours before landing on the sandy spit of the island of Udd in the Sea of Okhotsk. The total length of the record route was 9,375 kilometers. Already on the island of Udd on board the aircraft was inscribed "Stalin route".

In May 1937, permission was received to fly to the United States. The start of the ANT-25 took place on 18 June. The flight took place in much more difficult conditions than the previous one (lack of visibility, icing, etc.), but on June 20 the plane made a successful landing in the city of Vancouver, Washington, USA. The length of the flight was 8504 kilometers.

After a record flight, the ANT-25 was disassembled and delivered to the USSR in this form on a steamer.

The cabin is unheated. During the flight across the North Pole it was fiercely cold.
