Top European Hill Towns
CNN published a list of the 15 most beautiful hilltop towns in Europe. This year I have been to two of them:
Mont Saint-Michel, France
You can only walk in the vast sand and mud surrounding the island monastery/town of Mont Saint-Michel during the day. At night the area fills up with water.
Even the sand in the foreground of this photo is covered with water at night.
and
Mdina, Malta
Mdina is a walled hilltop city with a distinct type of architecture that is apparent in this photo of St. Paul's Cathedral, Mdina's most prominent structure. Catholicism is a big deal in Malta.

Mont Saint-Michel looks spectacular. I might have to add that to my bucket list.
Worth a visit in my opinion.
