Hoy iniciaré, mi publicación con esta hermosa fotografía de un Zanate Caribeño, emprendiendo el vuelo a orillas del Mar Caribe, esta ave es muy común en Venezuela, por no decir, que es endémica y en esta oportunidad será el tema en torno al cual versará mi publicación. Su nombre científico es Quiscalus lugubris y debido a que sus hábitats reproductores son los espacios abiertos incluyendo las zonas de cultivo y las habitadas por los humanos, es muy frecuente encontrarlos en casi cualquier sitio, alimentándose en el suelo de insectos, invertebrados, inclusive, es común verlos alimentándose de desperdicios. Motivado a sus preferencias gregarias en cuanto a su dieta, su comportamiento podría considerarse atrevido o audaz, ya que en busca de comida, pueden llegar a entrar en las casas y restaurantes.

Motivated to their gregarious preferences regarding their diet, their behavior could be considered bold or daring, since in search of food, they can get to enter houses and restaurants.
Tordo negro o Tordo Llanero, son nombres con los que también se le conoce a esta ave paseriforme de la familia Icteridae que se encuentra diseminada por en el norte de Sudamérica y las Antillas Menores, específicamente, la podemos ver en Anguilla, Antigua y Barbuda, Aruba, Barbados, Brasil, Colombia, Perú, Ecuador, Dominica, la Guyana francesa, Granada, Guadalupe, Guyana, Martinica, Montserrat, las antillas holandesas, San Cristóbal y Nieves, Santa Lucía, San Vicente y las Granadinas, Surinam, Trinidad y Tobago y Venezuela.
Black Thrush or Thrush Llanero, are names that are also known to this passerine bird of the family Icteridae that is scattered in northern South America and the Lesser Antilles, specifically, we can see in Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, Barbados, Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Dominica, French Guyana, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Guyana, Martinique, Montserrat, the Netherlands Antilles, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago Tobago and Venezuela.
Esta especie fue descrita científicamente por el naturalista inglés William John Swainson en 1838. Se reconocen ocho subespecies y en el caso del Zanate Caribeño, se caracteriza por poseer un comportamiento muy territorial, por lo que suelen atacar en grupos a sus posibles depredadores, como a los perros, mapaches o humanos. El descanso nocturno también lo realizan en grupo, al igual que la cría de sus pollos. Crean colonias construyendo nidos en forma de cuenco bastante profundos que construyen en los árboles. Suelen poner de dos a cuatro huevos blanquecinos que incuban durante 12 días. Los pollos tardan en dejar el nido otros 12 días.
This species was scientifically described by the English naturalist William John Swainson in 1838. Eight subspecies are recognized and in the case of the Caribbean Zanate, it is characterized by a very territorial behavior, so they usually attack in groups their possible predators, as dogs, raccoons or humans. The nocturnal rest also they realize it in group, like the breeding of its chickens. They create colonies by building quite deep bowl-shaped nests that they build on the trees. They usually put two to four whitish eggs that incubate for 12 days. The chicks are late in leaving the nest another 12 days.
Finalmente, de acuerdo a lo que investigue, en cuanto a su apariencia, los machos adultos de Zanate Caribeño, se caracterizan por poseer un plumaje totalmente negro con irisaciones violetas, los ojos son de color amarillo y el pico oscuro, alcanza a medir unos 27 cm de largo y tienen una cola larga en forma de cuña, a diferencia las hembras adultas miden unos 23 cm, tienen la cola más corta y el plumaje pardo grisáceo, más oscuro en las partes superiores que en las inferiores. En el caso de los especímenes juveniles, los machos tienen la cola más corta que los adultos y tienen parte del plumaje parduzco, en cambio las hembras jóvenes son muy parecidas a las adultas.
Finally, according to what you investigate, in terms of appearance, the adult males of Caribbean Zanate, are characterized by having a completely black plumage with violet iridescence, the eyes are yellow and the dark beak, can measure about 27 cm long and have a long wedge-shaped tail, unlike adult females are about 23 cm, have shorter tail and grayish plumage, darker in the upper parts than in the lower. In the case of juvenile specimens, males have shorter tails than adults and have part of the brownish plumage, whereas young females are very similar to adults.
