Cariaquito Morado - The best to ward off bad luck, or another myth of Venezuelan folklore?

in #photography5 years ago (edited)

Greetings dear friends and photography lovers

Today I bring you images of the beautiful and delicate flowers, an ornamental shrub very popular in my country, Venezuela. It is the Purple Cariaquito or how it is known scientifically Lantana Trifolia Linnaeus. This plant belonging to the Verbenaceae family, as you can see in the images, has its inflorescences grouped in twigs. But their twigs are very peculiar, they seem armed by small fairies of nature, since, in the same bouquet there are flowers in two different shades following a circular pattern. In the central zone, delicate white flowers are located, and in the external zone of the bouquet flowers in magenta tone emerge.

This perennial shrub, develops in tropical areas, therefore, it is scattered throughout the Caribbean, Hawaii, Central America, and in practically all of South America. It is also possible to find it in Africa and Madagascar. For its beautiful inflorescences and for being a very resistant shrub it is very commonly used in the field of gardening. In addition, it is conferred medicinal properties, stating that it helps to cure chronic flu, as well as helps improve liver and menstruation problems.

But in Venezuela the popularity of this plant is not due to its ornamental virtues, or medicinal properties. Well no, it turns out that this plant, according to the folklore of the Venezuelan people, is wrapped in a mystical and esoteric aura, which gives it the property, to ward off "bad luck." So it is so, that it is common to use the phrase "... you have to bathe with purple cariaquito ..." when someone is going through situations related to bad fortune, because according to the baths with this bush attract good luck. Even if you don't believe it, they even make soaps with the essence of Cariaquito Morado, as you can see it is a folk belief deeply rooted in my town.

Well, for now I say goodbye, take care of yourself, fully enjoy each day of your life, never forget to take the time to look around and delight in the wonders that nature around us gives us.
