Metamorphosis In August

I have always been one of those people who find some fascination in the process called Metamorphosis.

I opened my front door one day late last month and found this Caterpillar already hanging there on my porch pole.
It is so cool how just after a few hours, it went from just starting the process to a cocoon being formed almost in front of my eyes!
I had to grab my camera and get some shots from this perfect opportunity on my doorstep.

I started thinking that I would shoot a few photos every few hours and try to keep a record of the whole process.

While I was snapping away, thinking how these could be used to show future generations the process and help educate them, I never thought

that anywhere along the line of changing from one type of insect to another, that something may actually come along and disrupt the process completely!

Sadly, this is exactly what happened!
Someone came into the porch and somehow felt unstable and had to grab onto the pole to catch themselves before they fell from tripping over and of course, where did they grab?

Yes, that is the last we will see of this little creature, in either form. So sad that it had to end like that, but that is life.

Some of the other caterpillars which are doing the same thing in my garden have succumbed to other similar fates. Mostly, from other insects like spiders which are also abundant here too!
