Snow Storm in Monochrome (Original B&W Photography)

Howdy!

Weather forecasts were very inconsistent over the last few days, but there was one thing they all agreed on: snow! Some meteorologists predicted 3-5 inches, others 5-9. Waking up to an obvious lack of a snowstorm, I headed down to the coffee shop to work. That's when the snow hit!

It wasn't really a surprise and I had planned for a snowy hike back up the hill. I'd brought one of my weather sealed lenses (the one with broken manual focus switch) and was hoping to get some snowy photos. The weather didn't disappoint, either. A few gently falling snowflakes quickly became a substantial snowfall.

It was a lovely hike up the hill and the sight of the big Catholic church in the storm was worth pausing for a few photos. It's doubtful the Saturday night mass was very well attended tonight!

The storm isn't supposed to let up intil noon tomorrow and we've already gotten more than six inches of snow. It's heavy and wet, makking shoveling the driveway a good bit of exercise. Fortunately, tomorrow's Sunday and I have a few pots' worth of coffee beans left. The driveway can wait until I'm ready for it.

Fresh snow is quite beautiful, even though it can make driving a bit complicated. I hope to get out early for another walk around town and see what the storm's aftermath has left.

Wow! You made crappy weather look wonderful! Love the lamp and Herman the German? in the background :) Is that my bad eyes or did you blur the edges of a couple of your photos? I bet the plow operator was surprised to see you photographing :) We don't have snow YET, but it's very cold and sunny here (-27 today brrrrr)

The edges have a white vignette, just to soften the edge of the photo a little. Actually, Herman the German is in the next town over and that's Lady Justice on top of the absurdly large old courthouse in Mankato. It finally quit snowing at noon the next day, leaving eight inches of heavy, wet snow. Shoveling the driveway was like trying to move concrete!

Very gorgeous. Always love a fresh snow on buildings look! The 2nd is absolutely stunning.

Thanks. Fresh snow is pretty, for sure.

Snow is such a novelty to me @fotosdenada and your photos are simply amazing.

Thanks! It's a very cold, wet, and slippery novelty... lol

I really enjoy veiwing your snow themed images @fotosdenada Truly beautiful. We have finally received decent rain which has been very effective in putting out numerous fires around Queensland, some of which have been raging for over two weeks. What a relief!

Good to hear the fires are under control. Did they destroy many structures, or were they mostly rural? Fires are so destructive. I hope the rain helped clear the air of some of the smoke and debris, too.

A few years ago, there was a huge wildfire in northern Minnesota. They could smell the smoke hundreds of miles away in Chicago.

It is good news @fotosdenada I know homes were destroyed but am not sure how many. I do know that over one million hectares was burnt in Queensland which is a huge area and most of it was rural, but many rely on the land to make a living so it has been devastating for them........especially so close to Christmas.

hopefully you've got a vehicle that's good in the snow

I actually traded my old RWD truck for a 4WD jeep this fall, and it is much easier on snow-covered roads. A couple hours ago, I took it out to see how it handled in the snow and was impressed. :-)

would love to have a jeep !

Howdy sir fotosdenada! What a glorious site, all that beautiful snow! Of course I can say that, I'm in Texas where it doesn't snow. lol. I hope everyone is safe up there. Those church pictures are gorgeous!

Ha! The first few snowfalls, people have this idea that they can still drive 10mph over the limit. You really have to be a defensive driver. The snow is really pretty, but I would much rather be back in southern Spain. It's 70 and sunny in Ronda today.

oh wow, 70 and sunny! Do they even have winters over there? Well you'll make it back there eventually right?

It's easy to visit, as a US citizen, but getting back there to work and live is a lot more complicated.

The winters where I lived were more like a rainy season. There were a few weeks of mid-40's and torrential rains. It actually feels colder than winter here in MN, with the cold and damp. Not many homes have good heating.

wow, colder than Minnesota! Is the country fairly poor as far as the population? I think I read that they were one of the ones with massive debt problems too. What kind of hoops do you have to jump through for to work there?

The temperature is colder in MN, but we have central heating, fireplaces, and winter clothes.

Spain does have its share of financial trouble, but the cost of living is a more less than here and healthcare is covered through taxes. The public transportation is also very usable, so having a car is pretty optional.

Getting a work visa involves having a company formally offer you work, but it has to be something that a local can't do. That makes things very difficult, especially since citizens of any EU country don't need a visa.

Howdy again sir fotosdenada! Well it sounds like a nice place to go, but you need to be offered a job from a company there, how can that be done? You have to go there first and interview? Is Spain in the EU?

Yes, Spain is part of the EU. I have quite a few friends there and a lot of job seeking seems to be word-of-mouth. That might help, in the end. A lot of places will do online interviews, at least for a first interview.

Of course, the other option is to have about $500k to invest in real estate or a small business. Then there's the "Have over a million dollars and get a retiree visa" option. Neither of thoose are likely, unless the price of Steem hits about $1,000... lol

Great snow photos! Guess I should probably go look at the weather!

Thanks. We ended up with eight inches of heavy, cement-like snow. I haven't seen any snowmen yet, but kids are more into mobile tech these days.
